I don't hate 80s Doctor Who, I just find it disappointing. Potentially great Doctors wasted amid a dramaless, suspenseless, style-over-substance mess. There are some stories that on rewatching (Alys and I are currently on a 'Dr. Who from the Start' - like Galaxy never quite managed - and are up to "Arc of Infinity"), I don't think they're as bad as I remember. Even "Time-Flight" is more bearable than I thought. But generally, it really does feel like a tired show going through the motions. As for my favourite stories, well, let's think, practically the whole first Hartnell series, "The Dalek Invasion of Earth", "Power/Evil of the Daleks", "Tomb of the Cybermen", "The Invasion", "Spearhead from Space", "Inferno", "Terror of the Zygons", "Pyramids of Mars", "The Seeds of Doom", "The Deadly Assassin", "The Robots of Death" and "The Talons of Weng-Chiang". Rip away! ;D I can't! You've listed some pretty good stories there, although I have to say that I think "Talons" is massively overrated. I don't think it's that good and is too long. Also I've never seen Power or Evil of the Daleks, so I don't know about them. I'm pleased to see you included "Inferno" - that's probably my favourite story of all. It's long but it never drags. I can't agree with you about '80s Who being dramaless and suspenseless, though. Offer me a choice between any Davison or Colin Baker season and the crap we were served up towards the end of the Tom Baker era (I can't remember off-hand what season it is, but the one with Creature From The Pit and Horns of Nimon, etc.) and I'll take Davison and Colin every time. So you've just watched Time-Flight? That is truly crap. There are certain stories that have bad reputations, sometimes rightly and often wrongly. I'll name two I like - Four To Doomsday, which is nowhere near as bad as made out. Actually it's quite good. The other one with a bad rep that I really like is Invasion Of The Dinosaurs. Okay, the dinosaurs look crap, but the story is really good! Now it's your turn to take the p**s!

How could I? I'd agree with you about "Four to Doomsday". At least it tried to do something different, and I find it infinitely more watchable than "Kinda", "The Visitation" and "Earthshock", the perceived "classics" of the season. I also think that "Invasion of the Dinosaurs" is possibly the best Pertwee of that season, something of a throwback to the first couple of seasons he did. That last Pertwee season is really pretty dire - only "Dinosaurs" stands out as decent to me.
"Talons" is probably my favourite all-time story, and obviously, like you, I've never seen "Power" or "Evil" - they just sound superb on audio and the surviving "Evil" episode is rather tasty.
But this is all a bit off the beaten track re. Jupiter Moon? Perhaps the kindly mods can split off the "Who" discussion into General, please?

That'll mean reading the manual!!!!!
Season 19 is actually my favourite season of Doctor Who. I agree with Chris about Talons being overrated too. Good script, great performances, but David Maloney just sends me to sleep - the direction is plodding. Now if only Paddy Russell had directed it, she had a real flair for that kind of thing. Sadly I don't think it was suited to Maloney's strengths.

Just had a poke around and I am not sure you can split or merge threads (well it is a freebie service!) just move whole topics.
So It'll have to stay here and a new Doctor Who thread made if you so wish!

I love Season 19 as well. I think it's because it was the first season I actually watched totally - before that I just used to watch Dr Who on and off. A very varied selection of stories, three companions (I always liked Nyssa! And the fun of guessing at which point in the story Adric was going to side with the villains! Good stuff.

I used to watch JM on the Sci-fi channel a few years ago and got really into it. Then I moved house and couldn't get cable anymore so I hadn't seen it in years. Earlier this year I was reminiscing about the show and searched for it on the net and found to my utter delight it was being released on dvd

The DVDs have indeed been a godsend, and a great shot in the arm for the series' profile. Let's just hope they go all the way with the releases. (If you know what I mean!)

I'd never seen Jupiter Moon before this week. We've never has satellite television and I wasn't keen on buying a series blind that had such a "bad" reputation. I had seen a few positive reviews of the DVDs though (like Alan's at the Mausoleum Club), and so when I found volume one for £3.99 in my local Smiths last week I decided to gamble on it.
I wasn't too impressed with the first three episodes and found the some of the soapy stuff grating, but the ongoing sci fi thread with the black cloud and the hints about disastrous missions in the past were tantalizing. By episode five, I was finding the series somewhat addictive. The soap material seems to work much better now it's being moved by the sci fi plot line - and it's actually rather gripping.
I'm enjoying it so much I've ordered the next couple of volumes and hope they arrive before I finish episode 11!

Top man, James!
Always best to make up your own mind about something after you have actually seen it!
As I posted elsewhere I wasn't terribly impressed with the idea of the programme when I heard about it. Thankfully the realisation was vastly different to how I imagined it.

"The Plasma Ball" arrived in the post this morning. I'm rather glad about that, because after the excitement of episode 11 I wouldn't have wanted to wait too long for the next installment.
It was certainly a very canny moment to end a volume on, after what was the most exciting episode to date (with episode 5 being the main competition).

Jupiter Moon - well I never had cable when I was a school so despite knowing a great deal about JP I never really saw more than a couple of episodes until they came out on DVD. I really have got quite hooked although by far the most interesting thing for me is hearing my name out loud and it not being directed at me!
