The more I watch the series, the more I'm impressed with Alan Parker's score, which is incredibly rich and cinematic. When other videotaped drama series of the time were relying on synthesised sounds, Jupiter Moon was lavished with a great score by a talented composer, performed by a full orchestra. Whoever came up with the audacious idea of hiring a respected composer and an orchestra to build a library of Jupiter Moon stock music was truly inspired. It's one of Jupiter Moon's greatest strengths - and unlike other series of the period, its music hasn't left it dated. Great stuff.

I'm always flabbergasted by the score, not only a genius idea but one of madness. It couldn't possibly work - but it does!
I'm not sure whose idea it was originally to have the score - William's I would imagine - but it was Matt McCarthy's contacts with Alan Parker and in Prague that led to it happening in such a lavish manner.
It is so layered, and unlike some other Parker TV scores (for much bigger programmes) is not just a bassist, a guitarist, a 3 man horn section and a guy with a bontempi - I bet Parker was chuffed too with what he had been given to play with.

I also only just noted that some episodes e.g. Episode 66 have a different mix of the end title theme. Which of course also sounds even more cool remixed into Dolby Digital 5.1 sound Automan.

I thought that it was just a dodgy source tape rather than a different mix.
